Love Brigade Gets You Ready To Fall In Love.
New York, NY: Brooklyn-based clothing label Love Brigade is gearing up to debut their “Soulmates Never Die” collections, a series of 10 collections with one main overtheme. Designed by founder Alyssa Key, along newcomer Devan Markiewicz, their next 11 collections take inspiration from their personal interpretations of the different phases of an intimate, satisfying, and ultimately painful relationship between two soulmates. This theme, unveiling a new stage each season until Autumn/Winter 2016, is illustrated throughout the collection with the use of Love Brigade's signature dark, muted color palette and a distinctive motif that brings every piece together.
A/W 2011 provides us an introduction into all of the subsequent stages of the “soulmate” relationship; from the wonderfully carefree beginnings, to the heart-wrenching demise, to the eventual healing and hopeful rebirth of the individual. The heavy, tactile fabrics and deep colors used in each piece evokes a sense of emotion that only this design trio can produce. The collection features more voluminous silhouettes than seen in previous Love Brigade collections. For women, heavy jackets with a longer length, 70's-reminiscent flare trousers, and signature Love Brigade dresses highlight this new aesthetic. "We're using more fabric in this collection, usually we show more skin, but this collection has a little something for everyone", says Senior Designer Alyssa Key.
We embark on the first stage of the relationship in S/S 2012, “Stage I: The Union”. The collection personifies the heady, lighthearted and sometimes vulnerable emotions associated with the union of two people. In contrast to the darker feel of A/W 2011, these designs are a little more revealing mixed with flirty gathers and ruffles giving a sensual feel to the individual pieces. "?The Union? takes place right before the starry-eyed phase of enchantment. It's indicative of putting yourself out there, wearing your heart on your sleeve, and having an open-mind. The pieces in this collection represent that", says the team. The prevalence of dark and neutral striped fabrics signifies the hard and soft contrast of the individuals? selves prior to meeting versus the gearing up for potential love. The signature piece in this collection is the “Secret Garden Dress”. Dark gray and natural striped linen with a small peephole above the stomach and below the chest, this voluminous, tightly gathered fairy tale dress perfectly captures the bold playfulness of the union phase. For Love Brigade?s men, a new fit of their classic Danger Pants, safe yet stylish cut-and-sew garments, and cohesive graphic tshirt groups are to be expected.
The collections will be available at Love Brigade's self-branded retail store at 230 Grand Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211, in select boutiques around the world, and online at www.lovebrigade.com.
